In 2000-2001, Bob begins his 2nd
season at the helm of the Eagles, having guided the Eagles to the
National Championship Game and a 2nd place finish.
Bob comes to EMU Hockey after 5
years as the Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development for
the Toledo Cherokee Junior B Hockey Club. During his tenure, the
Cherokee proved to be one of the finest junior organizations in the
US and captured the 1998 National Championship held in March in Simi
Valley, CA. As well as finishing runner-up in 1997, the Cherokee had
two Central States Hockey League Championships and two Gold Cup
Playoff Championships to their credit under Bob's tutelage.
Long considered as an excellent
tactician and teacher of ice hockey, Bob brings a thorough
understanding of the game to EMU Hockey. He is a strong and
knowledgeable bench coach with 15 years of experience and he has a
reputation as a disciplined taskmaster. Among his strengths art the
ability to develop effective game strategies, conduct outstanding
practice and dryland training sessions, and the knack for developing
first-rate goaltenders.
A former college and junior hockey
goaltender, Bob was the Director of the National Goaltender Camp for
USA Hockey in 1993 and 1994. He resurrected the Team Toledo Midget
AAA club as an assistant coach with his dynamic practices and helped
guide them to two Tier I District and Regional Championships and
National Tournament appearances in 1992 and 1993. Bob coached St.
John's High School to two State semi-final appearances in 1990 and
1991. He has many years of experience in house and travel as well as
running the Mid-Am Initiation Program during its highly successful
inaugural efforts from 1992-1994.
Holder of a Master Coach ranking
in the USA Hockey Coaching Achievement Program, Bob has spent 8
years working with coaches at associate and intermediate clinics.
His background in working with players in teaching and learning
situations is considerable.
A classroom teacher for 21 years
at Clay High School in Oregon, OH, Bob works with the
interdisciplinary humanities programs and has been recognized for
his success as an innovative classroom educator. His master's degree
project was a very comprehensive review of power-play hockey. Bob is
married with family and resides in Toledo, OH. |
