Mike Hayes Biography

Head Varsity Coach: 2003 - Present

Mike is entering his sixth season as coach of the Titans.  In his first five seasons, the Titans have a record of 111-48-12.  Also in those five seasons, they have one NHC Championship (2007), one District Runner-up (2005), one District Championship (2007) and was the first Toledo school to officially win the Ohio State Championship (2007).  He also received Coach of the Year honors in the NHC in 2007.  Previous to coaching at SJJ, Mike served as a coach in the SMAHL travel program for four years.  His teams experienced a lot of success over those four seasons including a Little Caesar’s championship and a Regional Silver Sticks title.  He also led a Bantam A travel team (7th and 8th graders) to a victory over Anthony Wayne’s Varsity team in 2003.  He is still heavily involved in USA Hockey.  He has served as both a coach and an evaluator in the Midwest District’s select camps over the last six years.

Mike is a graduate of Whitmer High School and the University of Toledo.  At Whitmer, he played three years of varsity hockey and was captain of Whitmer’s 83-84 State Runner- up team that went 29-2-1 that season.  Mike was also an All-State baseball player at Whitmer and is in Whitmer’s Athletic Hall of Fame.  He played college baseball at the University of Toledo.  He received his bachelor’s degree in Communications.

 “Hockey is a passion to me.  Growing up, hockey helped forge several lifelong friendships, experiences and great memories.  Being the coach at SJJ, I want to help the players that play here get that same opportunity.  That, and win a state championship every year!”

This past year has been a busy year for Mike.  This past fall he married his lovely wife Rita.  This past summer, they welcomed their first daughter, Mia into the world.
