This year’s Titans show some promise
of once again being among the top teams in the state. They
also show promise of surpassing the success they achieved last year
including their 22 wins and 7-2-1 record in conference.
To start, the
Titans return 13 starters from last year including almost all of
their offense. This year’s returnees accounted for over 75% of the
goal production last year including five players who had
double-digit goal production. 1st Team All-Conference players
Andrew Heldt (11 goals) and Mike Henson head up a very strong senior
class that should be able to provide the necessary leadership. The
other returning seniors include Shane Hetrick (11 goals), Mike
Callan (2nd Team All-Conference), Tad Huber, and Ben Wurst. There
were several freshman and sophomores who exceeded expectations last
year and should be able to do even more this year. This includes
Dan Johnson (18 goals), Ray Morris (17 goals), Cam Hauenstein (10
goals, All Conference Honorable Mention), Chase Parsell, Mark
Stansfield and Luke Stansfield. New varsity players Cam Joelson,
Cody Mathews, Tyler Jarosz, Steven Schmitt, Matt Butler and Eli
Riddle should be able to provide needed depth.
Last but not
least, the Titans will have a new starting goaltender for this
year. Junior Tyler Marzec brings plenty of Varsity experience with
him to this role. He has recorded several impressive victories over
the likes of Lakewood St. Edward’s, Cleveland St. Ignatius,
University School and Trinity and comes in with a career goals
against average of 1.74. If the team continues its focus on team
defense, they should continue being one of the toughest teams to
score goals on.
Overall size
could be an issue but with the emphasis on strictly enforcing the
rules, their skating ability could turn this into an advantage.
Good luck.
