February 11, 2007. The Varsity Titans closed
out both the regular season and the conference with a hard fought 3-1 victory at
Bowling Green. It was Senior Day in Bowling Green and BG came out early and
tried to intimidate and slow down SJJ with strong physical play. The Titans
responded with some good physical play of their own.
Mark Stansfield got SJJ
going in the 2nd period with a real pretty goal picking up a loose puck from the
corner and making a couple nice moves to beat both the defenseman and the goalie
to make it 1-0.
In the third, the Titans
got the power play working with Shane Hetrick scoring off a nice goal mouth feed
from Mike Callan. About 5 minutes later the Titans capped off their scoring
with Mark Stansfield’s breakaway goal off a very nice neutral zone pass from Ben
Wurst. BG broke Tyler Marzec’s shutout bid with 40 seconds remaining to make
the score 3-1 but BG couldn’t get it any closer. The victory avenged SJJ’s only
conference loss that came at the hands of Bowling Green on opening night.
The victory made the
Titan’s final conference record to 8-1-1 and their overall record to 23-7-3.
Congratulations to all on a very nice regular season. Keep it up; the success
should only make you hungrier. |
