titans advance to District finals with OT win over SFS

February 24, 2007.  Great goaltending and timely goal scoring was the formula for finally defeating a St. Francis team in the district playoffs.  The Varsity Titans advance to the District Finals next Saturday against Findlay by defeating St. Francis 2-1 in overtime.  The game was battled hard by both sides and was the most intense game of the year.  Ray Morris’ shot from the slot late in the first OT won the game for the Titans.  Tyler Marzec made 25 saves and Cam Hauenstein scored the other Titan goal.  SJJ will play Findlay in the District Finals next Saturday after they knocked off Northview 1-0.

The Titan victory wasn’t won by what showed up on the score sheet though.  It was won by what didn’t show up on the score sheet.   The Titan defensemen did a wonderful job handling the puck in their own zone and keeping pressure away from the SJJ net.  The forwards did an excellent job helping out in the defensive zone and wearing down the Knight forwards with their pressure.  All in all, a total team effort.

The victory was extremely special for the upperclassmen as they finally were able to solve SFS when it mattered most.  Congrats for a big and very special victory.  With that in mind, remember you haven’t won anything yet.  Remember the formula/process that wins us hockey games.  It never changes.  STAY HUNGRY!
