Titans Go Undefeated At Titan Invitational - But Finish 3rd

The Varsity Titans finished 3rd at their own tournament although they finished the tournament unbeaten. The varsity icers went 2-0-2 but didn’t qualify for the championship game on Sunday.

Friday night, SJJ got off to a great start as they beat Cincinnati Moeller 7-2. On Saturday morning, the Titans ran up against a hot goalie as they played Elyria Catholic. St. John’s controlled the majority of the play but could only get three past the EC goalie. A last minute goal against as Elyria had pulled their goalie for the extra attacker and SJJ lost their 3-2 lead and tied 3-3. In the evening contest, the Titans took on perennial powerhouse Parma Padua. St. John’s jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead but needed a third period goal to tie Pauda 4-4. The two ties eliminated the Titans from playing in the championship and put them in the consulation game vs. Lake Catholic.

St. John’s jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the 2nd period. A defensive meltdown allowed Lake Catholic to tie the game 6-6 mid way through the 3rd period. Kyle Knox scored the game winner in OT to give the varsity icers another thrilling 7-6 OT victory.
