Sometimes even the momentum of an
11-game winning streak and a mammoth rout in the previous
game aren't enough to carry a team to victory.
St. John's Jesuit ran into a fast-skating, sharp-shooting
squad from University School Sunday, losing 3-0 in the state
championship game at Nationwide Arena.

From the Toledo Blade: "With their
Titans holding a comfortable 3-0 lead late in the second
period over Centerville, the St. John’s Jesuit student
section chanted, “How’d you get here?” A better
question may have been, “Who can stop us?” The answer
will come today at 11 a.m. when St. John’s faces Hunting
Valley University School for a state championship at
Nationwide Arena after defeating the Elks 7-0 here yesterday
in a state semifinal.

St. John’s Jesuit hockey team, Mike Hayes has not allowed
much discussion of the Titans’ 2007 state championship — the
first for a metro Toledo team. Hayes prefers to keep his
team’s focus on this season, because as he sees it, the past
is the past and this year’s group doesn’t want to hear what
the squad from two years ago accomplished."

Wilkinson transferred to St. John's Jesuit after his
freshman year at Northview, a fellow power in northwest Ohio
high school hockey. The move, of course, drew
heavy criticism from the Northview program, and Wilkinson
has had to deal with jabs from his former teammates ever
since. Wilkinson, however, silenced all his
critics and became the hero for St. John's last night,
scoring the game-winner in double overtime to hand the
Titans a 4-3 win over Northview in the district final in
front of a capacity crowd at Tam O'Shanter. "

fierce and tight battle, St. John's Jesuit overcame several
doses of adversity to outlast rival St. Francis de Sales in
a district hockey semifinal last night. St. John's
senior Ray Morris tallied a hat trick, including an
empty-netter, to give the Titans a 5-3 triumph."

Varsity Season Preview
November 11, 2008
The 2008-2009 Varsity Titans will feature a lot of new
faces. This year’s team has 9 new players and 8 players
that are sophomores or freshmen. The cupboard definitely
isn’t bare though as there is a very good core of returning
players that should make the Titans a very formidable team.

JV Season Preview
November 11, 2008 As the
2008-09 Junior Varsity Titan season begins the program
welcomes 12 new freshman to the team. The freshman have some
big shoes to fill in and will have to start contributing
early. We will have some upper class leadership from juniors
Christian Sattler and AJ Momsen sophomores Connor Parsell
and Bryan Upton. The JV team will travel to 4 tournaments
this year and showcase NW Ohio in all regions of the state –
Oxford, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland. In addition to
these tournaments this will be the inaugural year for the
Junior Varsity division of the annual Titan Invitational
Tournament. This should be an exciting year and we are
looking to defend our NW Ohio league title. |
